Beijing EEDOO Technology Ltd. (abbreviated as EEDOO), the leading digital entertainment products and online services provider in China, Softkinetic, the leading developer of time-of-flight 3D gesture recognition CMOS sensors and cameras, and Namuga Ltd., a leading Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) specializing in video and 3D cameras, today announced that EEDOO has selected the DepthSenseTM 3D camera product developed in partnership between Softkinetic and Namuga using SoftKinetic’s patented 3D sensor technology to enable gesture-based entertainment on EEDOO’s iSec platform.

The iSec platform, to be launched in China later in 2011, is the result of two years of development started from the S&P business unit in Lenovo. The iSec is a high-performance home entertainment center that EEDOO targets at the rapidly growing market for multimedia and gaming applications in China. Aimed at 120 million homes, the iSec commits to bring in brand new 3D gesture-based multimedia and gaming entertainment content to Chinese families.

“We have been very impressed by SoftKinetic’s 3D gesture-recognition technologies and found that it was a very good solution to support our iSec platform, in terms of cost and performance,” said Jack Luo, CEO of EEDOO. “We have been working very closely with the SoftKinetic and Namuga teams for over a year now and feel that we have developed a competitive solution to offer to our customers the most exciting gesture-based entertainment experience.”

SoftKinetic’s 3D camera technology is based on the time-of-flight (TOF) principles: the camera analyzes, in real-time, the complete position of each pixel in the scene (in 3 dimension), and allows the system to track the movements of the users with high-accuracy. SoftKinetic’s TOF technology is implemented using SoftKinetic’s patented DepthSense CMOS pixel, called CAPD (Current Assisted Photonic Demodulation). This unique technology allows to build 3D cameras at competitive cost, with very high-efficiency, high-quality and limited noise, compared to other 3D camera technologies (time-of-flight, structured light, or stereoscopic).

“We are extremely pleased to work with such a talented and dedicated team at EEDOO. EEDOO’s vision is perfectly aligned with our strategy to bring 3D gesture-based applications and content to the largest possible audience,” said André Miodezky, President of SoftKinetic. “The combination of EEDOO’s advanced home entertainment platform with SoftKinetic’s 3D time-of-flight technology shall bring to Chinese consumers the most exciting and entertaining experience.”

Using the iSec with the SoftKinetic camera, users are able to control entertainment in full-body manner, without any accessory, enabling a truly immersive, intuitive and exciting user experience.
The iSec platform will be launched in second half year of 2011.
