5Di - The 'new-generation' Interactive Cinema from Alterface

alterface-5di-25Di is a comprehensive Interactive Cinema solution featuring stunning High Definition 3D images, incredible in-room Special Effects (4D), realistic seat movements and effects (5D) and, most importantly : Interactivity.

Building on the undoubted success of its former interactive theatre (more than 30 installations worldwide), Alterface continues to invest in this promising technology! This has resulted in over 10 innovations for the 2010 version of the 5Di cinema!

  1. New film in 3D: based on the success of the popular western-themed ‘Desperados’, Desperados 3D combines humor, impressive special effects and of course unmatched interactivity!
  2. New design for the seats: the seats changed colour, making them more fun and more visible!
  3. New score displays on the seats: new multifunctional LCD screens have replaced the red LEDs! These show more information, which enhances 'gameplay'.
  4. New generation of 'guns' with laser bore sights, enhancing the experience for players.
  5. New 'high-precision' shooting system: the 2010 version of interactive cinema is the most accurate ever for Alterface! Even top shooters will be happy with it!
  6. New wind and water effects: powerful, surprising and still featuring the strobe effect as standard.
  7. New in-theater effects: unique lighting effects make the theater even more lively!
  8. New 'Hall of Fame': the spectacle also takes place outside, highlighting the best (and not so good) players in real time throughout the session!
  9. New Photostore: we have upgraded the on-ride photo system, making it even better!
  10. New software architecture: the interactive cinema version is now even faster and user-friendlier, especially when switching languages or titles.

5Di is a neat combination of the best dynamic cinema AND interactivity!

Alterface brings its interactive brick to Kingdom Quest, the Interactive Dark Ride opens at the new Legoland Discovery Center in Manchester

alterface-5di-3

Opened on 22nd of March, the Legoland Discovery Center in Manchester is located under the roof of The Trafford Center, a well-known indoor shopping mall. In the next few years, Merlin Entertainments Group, owner of the Lego brand, aims to open many centers like this in the heart of major cities worldwide.

For its first UK site, Merlin Entertainments is calling on 3DBA to create an interactive dark ride based on the Lego medieval theme. ETF provided the themed vehicles, while Threshold produced the film and scenery.

Alterface once again provided the interactivity and show control (projection, sound system, shooting system, scoring, and special effects). Today the company's technology enables people to interact with the projection screens and to shoot at the physical targets dotted around the scenery. Individual scores are shown to players in real time (via the displays) and special effects are triggered by the shots. The adventure invites players to help free the princess held prisoner by an invading army.

Just a few weeks after this ride’s operational launch, the feedback already coming in is very positive. Kingdom Quest looks set to become one of the key attractions at Legoland Discovery Center in Manchester!

Kingdom Quest in brief:

  • 440 m2 floor space
  • 210 m track length
  • 7 scenes
  • 4 large screens for back-projection
  • 65 physical targets
  • 5 players per cart
  • a departure every 40 seconds
  • hourly capacity: 400 people

theHouse arrives in Europe

alterface-nightmare

In early June, in the Tusenfryd park in Norway, Alterface did inaugurate its first interactive haunted house in Europe. This unique attraction brings together 3D images, special effects, animatronics, interactivity and an impressive rotating platform that guides the players facing the screens.

New video sequences, a new sound track plus new and increasingly spectacular pop-up effects emphasize the terrifying atmosphere in this new kind of attraction! Entitled 'Nightmare' in Norway, the attraction benefits from all these new improvements already implemented in Branson, Missouri, where the 'Castle of Chaos' made a huge and positive impression last summer.

In Tusenfryd, a whole wall is filled with physical targets that react to shots. This makes 'Nightmare' an even more special attraction!

Alterface technology protected by a patent!

alterface-saltoSince February 2010, a European patent has protected the original aspects and innovation of Alterface’s interactive technology. SALTO, the software engine powering the attractions developed by Alterface, has thus been recognized as a unique innovation and is now protected as intellectual property. Other filed patents are likely to be accepted in the next few months.
