Continuing a string of satellite-delivered demonstrations of compelling 3D content, Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) is partnering with 3D Stereo Media for a unique set of live 3D transmissions during The European 3D-Stereo Summit for Science, Technology, and Digital Arts in Liège (Belgium) from 8 to 10 December.
Partners that include Eutelsat, RTBF, Transvideo and P+S Technik are joining forces during the Summit to film stereoscopic content in three locations in Liège and transmit the images live to the Palais des Congrès for immediate viewing by 3D industry experts and the public assembled for this second international rendez-vous. Using a 3D rig mounted onto a steadicam, the 3D signals will be delivered from cameras via a terrestrial radio link to an SNG truck provided by RTBF, and subsequently uplinked to capacity on a Eutelsat satellite. The 3D images on December 8 will include a live 3D transmission of the "Holiday Season Village" (Village de Noel) in downtown Liege. This will be followed on December 9 by images from the Guillemins TGV train station of Liège of the "SOS Planet exhibition", the biggest exhibition ever created on climate change, which is organised by Belgium during the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The 3D highlight of December 10 will be a live transmission of the inauguration of the "Pôle Image de Liège" in the presence of Jean-Claude Marcourt, Vice-President and Minister for the Economy, SMEs, Foreign Trade and New Technologies of the Walloon Government, Jean-Paul Philippot, administrator-general of RTBF, and Laurent Minguet, founder of EVS and Initiator and administrator of the "Pôle Image de Liège". In addition to these demonstrations, a live interview filmed in New York with Mark Schubin, an industry expert on 3D, will be transmitted by a Eutelsat satellite with transatlantic coverage direct to the auditorium of the Convention Centre. The speaker's image will appear in 3D on the 9m screen of the auditorium to drive a presentation from New York via the Internet. 3D Stereo Media is fully devoted to 3D stereo and beyond. It is based on seven main pillars: conferences, exhibition, training, technology demonstrations, workshops, scientific posters, and a 3D film festival (with competitions and awards).
